The German contingent in the minor leagues has been decimated to four players. Here’s what they did last week.
C Kai Gronauer (Las Vegas 51′s, AAA)
I’ll make it short. Gronauer didn’t play this week. Again. Unfortunately.
LF Donald Lutz (Pensacola Blue Whahoos, AA)
Lutz had three pinch hit appearances this week, but went 3-8 with 1 R, 1 RBI and 1 K in the two games he started. He’s at .234/.320/.398 right now.
OF Max Kepler-Rosicky (Cedar Rapids Kernels, A)
A good week for Kepler, who recorded 7 H and 6 RBI over seven games. Interestingly enough, he’s seen playing time at all three outfield positions as well as at 1B. His slash line should be a tad better to justify a promotion, but a .264/.355/.446 isn’t all that bad. I especially like the OBP. And he only struck out only 2 times in seven games, which is pretty good.
RHP Daniel Thieben (Pulaski Mariners, Advanced Rookie)
Thieben got rocked on July 28th against the Greeneville Astros. 1.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 1 K. Just one word: ugly. Still he has since shown he isn’t bothered by miserable outings, posting scoreless innings on July 30th (against the Bristol White Sox) and August 1st (against the Danville Braves), both wins for Pulaski. Over those 2 IP he had 4 K, 1 BB and 2 H, bringing his ERA down to 6.32. Still, if you take out that game against Greeneville he sits at around 3.77, which is very respactable.
RHP Markus Solbach (GCL Twins, Rookie)
I still don’t get why you release a guy with a 0.96 ERA…
