It seems only Mother Nature is able to stop the force known as Matt Harvey.
The Mets have been playing rather well lately, taking two road series from the Braves and the Phillies. Something the haven’t been able to do up until now. And the icing on the cake was – as always – Matt Harvey’s start on Sunday at Philadelphia.
Harvey – again – had it all going. And his teammates seemed to step it up a notch as well. Eeking out a run in the first inning. When that run was scored #MetsTwitter had the the same thought. “Here’s your run, boy. Now run with it”. Which he did. And then came the rain. And Harvey was out of the game.
6 IP, 2H, 1BB, 6 K. And all of this on only 72 pitches. Which could have meant that he might have been able to go the disctance. But, oh well, the rain.
But it wasn’t all about Harvey. As I said, his teammates were clicking as well. 9 extra base hits. 7 2B, 1 3B and a home run. And this crazy “error” by Ben Revere which allowed Juan Lagares to reach third base. A good day. The only blemish might have been that David Wright fell a single (of all things, a single!) short of the cycle. But hey, that didn’t really matter, ey?
Things are looking fine in Mets land lately, and although Lucas Duda and Jon Niese went to the DL (Niese’s injury looks scary. I just hope he isn’t lost for the season. But that’s, I guess, just wishful thinking) the rest of the pack is contributing. Let’s hope they can keep this up.
And just one more thought on Harvey. I’d be really cool if he can strike out the ran on three pitches. Next time.
