Germans abroad: The week in review (06/07/13-06/14/13)

This week wasn’t pleasant for the German players in the minors and majors.

LF Donald Lutz (Cincinnati Reds)
Four pinch hit appearances, no hits, no walks, 2 strikeouts. Lutz’s numbers continue to decline (.235/.259/.314) and his playing time is decreasing with it. I have no idea whether Dusty Baker thinks he’s overmatched or something else has happened. But it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s sent down in the near future.

C Kai Gronauer (Las Vegas 51′s, AAA)
His MiLB player profile says he’s on the 7-day DL, which means he’s got a concussion, I think. He hasn’t seen any game action since May 30th, so I hope it’s nothing serious.

OF Max Kepler-Rosicky (Cedar Rapids Kernels, A)
The season seems to have started for the Cedar Rapids Kernels, but Max Kepler hasn’t seen any playng time yet. Maybe he’s still in extended spring training, this article (look to the bottom) has him joining the team by next month.

RHP Daniel Thieben (Pulaski Mariners, Advanced Rookie Ball)
The Pulaski Mariners will start their season on June 20th, so there’s nothing new on Daniel Thieben yet.

Also nothing new on Julsan Kamara and Markus Solbach.
