Somehow Hanshin keeps winning

I still haven’t made up my mind about what to think of Hanshin thus far.

Okay, the pitching seems to be the strength. Today’s starter against the Baystars, Randy Messenger, pitched into the 8th inning, and although he was responsible for all 5 of Yokohama’s runs, I thought he did a pretty good job. Enokida was pitching great against Chunichi in a tough 0-1 loss which, as @pingoschtroumpf reminded me, is the blueprint for a Tiger’s game this season. They either win or lose in low scoring games. So today’s 14 hit, 10 run breakout is the exception of the rule.

The lineup looks a bit unbalanced at the moment. While you have guys who hit (Nishioka .344, Murton .337, Fujii .304, Yamato .280), you have others who are basically Japan’s version of Ike Davis (Fukudome .161, Toritani .247, Saka .154).

Still the Tigers are already 2.5 games ahead of the 3rd place Carp. I just can’t figure out how they did it.
