Not every Japanese high school team coach lets his pitchers waste their arm on the mound.
Urawa Gakuin (Saitama) absolutely destroyed Hokushou in the second game today (10-0), but what’s somewhat remarkable is that they a) used two pitchers and b) the starter went 7 IP by tossing only 81 pitches. Now 81 pitches after 7 innings is a pretty good number, but one has to expect the coach to let his pitcher complete the game when he’s cruising along like that. Still Urawa’s starter Kazuya
Kojima Ojima was lifted after 7 IP with a line of 1H, 1K, 1BB, 0R. His replacement Yamaguchi finished the job (2IP, 0H, 2K, 0BB, 0R).
The other quarterfinal was won by Tsurugakehi of Fukui, who ended the run of Seikou Gakuin (Fukushima), defeating them 9-3.They even used 5 pitchers in that game.
Tsurugakehi will now face Urawa Gakuin in the first semifinal.
